WCHS boys’ track 3rd at W. Jessamine relays; girls 4th

The Woodford County High School track teams went on the road Friday, March 31, for the West Jessamine Chick-fil-A Relays, and the boys’ team finished third, while the girls’ team finished fourth. Bryan Station won the boys’ division with 40 points. In second was East Jessamine with 38 points, Woodford was third with 34 points and West Jessamine was fourth with 19 points. In the girls’ division, West Jessamine won with 38 points, while East Jessamine was second with 36 points, Bryan Station was fourth with 25 points and Woodford was fourth with 13 points. The West Jessamine Chick-fil-A Relays were a unique style of meet, as all events were relays, including the field events. Here are the results for Woodford in the meet. Girls’ Results The meet opened with the distance medley, and the team of Jessica Smith, Esher Bradshaw, Savannah Karbach and Jodie Smith finished second with a time of 15:14.62. In the next event, the 4x200-meter relay, the team of Kasey Montgomery, Bethany Goode, Rachel Tyra and Mackenzie Tucker finished fourth with a time of 2:02.73. Also running in the race, the team of Bianca Genovese, Kristen Jordan, Kristen Taylor and Lucie Receveur finished eighth with a time of 2:21.02. Next up was the 4x800-meter relay and the team of Maricela Ponce, Turner Reynolds, Jessica Smith and Jodie Smith finished third with a time of 12:30.06. Then in the sprint medley, the team of Goode, Tyra, Montgomery and Tucker finished sixth with a time of 2:27.32. In the field events, Woodford had some solid results. In the shot put relay, Leah Wash finished 12th with a best throw of 15-ft., 5.5-ins., while Renee Murphy finished 14th with a best throw of 12-ft., 7.75-ins. Then in the discus relay, Wash once again had the best finish for Woodford. She finished ninth with a best throw of 32-ft., 7-ins. Also, Murphy finished 10th with a best throw of 22-ft., 4-ins. In the long jump relay, Jessica Smith had Woodford’s top performance. She finished seventh with a best jump of 14-ft,. 2-ins., while Gabi Minogue finished 11th with a best jump of seven feet. In the pole vault relay, Woodford finished second and third in the event. Allison Ferguson was second with a best vault of 6-ft., 6-ins., while Brianna Clark finished third with a best vault of five feet. Boys’ Results In the boys’ first race, the distance relay, the team of Kyle Holt, Alex Morgan, Alex Sowder and Peter McGowan finished fifth with a time of 12:55.03. Also running in the race, the team of Mitchell Scott, Justin Lehmkuhler, Patrick Stiltner and Abran Santos finished sixth with a time of 13:08.51. In the 2x110-meter shuttle hurdle, the team of Lehmkuhler and Nick Lamb finished second with a time of 34.75. Then in the 4x200-meter relay, the team of Luke Caldwell, James Hawkins, Mason Coburn and Keegan Elvidge finished fourth with a time of 1:50.22. Next up was the 4x800-meter relay and the team of McGowan, Santos, Sowder and Holt finished second with a time of 9:57.95. Also in the event, the team of Scott, Jalen Newton, Stiltner and Clay Thomas finished third with a time of 10:25.12. The next race was the sprint medley, and the team of Jai Burgess, Ben Nash, Coburn and Elvidge finished third with a time of 1:49.34. In addition, the team of Justin Alexander, Caldwell, Hawkins and Alex Morgan finished eighth with a time of 2:09.94. In the 4x100-meter relay, the team of Malik Richards, Jacob Jenkins, D’Andre Sanchez and Darnell Richard finished third with a time of 58.19. Then in the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Hawkins, Thomas, Newton and Caldwell finished sixth with at time of 4:38.44. In the field events, the boys’ team continued its strong performances. In the shot put relay, Jacob Jenkins was fifth with a best throw of 36-ft., 8-ins. In addition, Richard was 10th with a best throw of 31-ft., 3.5-ins., and Sanchez was 15th with a best throw of 23-ft., 5-ins. In the discus relay, Woodford swept the top three spots. Colin Hudson won the event with a best throw of 109-ft., 6-ins., while Jenkins was second with a best throw of 105-ft., 10-ins. and Richards was third with a best throw of 98-ft., 7-ins. Also, Richard was sixth with a best throw of 89-ft., 8-ins., Domynik Johnson was ninth with a best throw of 74-ft., 9-ins. and Sanchez was 15th with a best throw of 64-ft., 5-ins. In the high jump relay, Woodford took the top two spots, as Johnson won the event when he cleared 5-ft, 10-ins., while Lehmkuhler finished second when he cleared 5-ft., 8-ins. Also, Richards finished fourth when he cleared six feet. In the long jump relay, Keagan Stromberg finished first with a best jump of 20-ft., 4-ins. In addition, Burgess finished fourth with a best jump of 18-ft., 6-ins., Jordan Upton was sixth with a best jump of 17-ft,. 5.5-ins., Brennan Clark was eighth with a best jump of 17-ft., 1-ins., Drew Richie was 12th with a best jump of 15 feet, and Ethan Parker was 19th with a best jump of 10-ft., 11-ins. Then in the pole vault relay, Sam Martin finished first with a best vault of 12-ft., 9-ins. In addition, Lamb finished third with a best vault of 10 feet, Upton was fourth with a best vault of eight feet and Richie was fifth with a best vault of seven feet. Next up, Woodford goes on the road for the Montgomery County Invitational on Thursday, April 20, at 6 p.m. Then on Saturday, April 22, they travel for the Harrison County Invitational, which starts at 10 a.m.
