Silas Stedman Jenkins Jr., 83, widower of Betty Jenkins, died Monday, April 17, 2017, at his home in Lawrenceburg. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Tank Gunnery, 3rd Armored Division, Company C, 29th Armored Inf. Bat., stationed at Ft. Knox. He was born in Scott County and had been a longtime resident of Woodford County, where he worked in construction. Survivors include three children, Susan (Richard) Jones, Versailles, Mark (Debbie) Jenkins, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Jeanette (Lupe) Long-Gongora, Lawrenceburg; three grandchildren, Chad Jenkins, Indianapolis, Ind., Rebecca Long, Lawrenceburg, and Cody Gongora, Lawrenceburg; and two brothers, Wilber (Jean) Jenkins, Georgetown, and Lee (Brenda) Jenkins, Gastonia, S.C. Two siblings, Colby and Ruth, are deceased. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. held Friday, April 21, with the service following at 1 p.m. at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery, Georgetown. Members of the Versailles Fire Department - Freeman Bailey, Josh Devore, Wayne Hawkins, Josh Sloane, Jerry Cornett, and Jimmy Robinson - will serve as casket bearers.
