Garland Esculene Hobson Smith, 101, widow of William Judson Smith, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at her home. Born April 2, 1916, in Buchanan, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Jesse Stump Hobson. She was retired from the Ashland City School System, where she had been a lunch room manager, and was a member of the First Church of God in Ashland. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Frances Smith Payton (Heath), Versailles; a granddaughter, Jessica Ray Harbor Knight (Shawn), Millville; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Knight and Maxwell Knight. A sister, Easter Maynard; and a brother, Alex "June" Hobson Jr., are deceased. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, April 27, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the Ashland Cemetery Chapel in Ashland. Memorial donations are suggested to Bluegrass Care Navigators (Hospice), 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY, 40601.
