Jean Baylor Sellers, widow of Billy Sellers, died Thursday, April 26, 2017. The daughter of the late Helen and Orval W. Baylor, she was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but lived most of her life in Kentucky and was a resident of Versailles since 1944. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, with a bachelor of music degree and a master of library science degree. While a music student at UK, Mrs. Sellers was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Fraternity for Women, holding the office of chaplain for the local chapter, and in the alumnae chapter she held the office of editor. A lifelong member of the Christian Church, she served as organist of Versailles First Christian for 38 years, retiring from the position in 1999. In September of 2002, she was named Organist Emeritus by the church board. A former elementary school music teacher and school librarian, Mrs. Sellers taught at several Woodford County schools, her last post being librarian at Huntertown Elementary, from which she retired in 1991. She had also been a private piano teacher, a Girl Scout leader, 4H Club leader, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the church choir. She worked in the program department of radio station WVLK during its first four years on the air. Since retirement, Mrs. Sellers has served as a volunteer at the Woodford County Library and was a member of Friends of the Library. She served several years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Home in Versailles. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, the Bluegrass and Woodford County Retired Teachers, and the University of Kentucky Alumni Association. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bledsoe Baylor. Mrs. Sellers had a great love for music and books, but most of all she loved her family, her church and her God. Survivors include one son, William Robert Sellers (Jeannette); two daughters, Jan Coleman Sellers and Jill Barrows; two grandchildren, Mark Sellers and Jennifer Ciecorka (Michael), all of Versailles; a sister-in-law, Patsy Baylor of Lima, Ohio; and also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 29, at First Christian Church in Versailles, officiated by the Rev. Marcus Lynn and the Rev. Don Vanzant. Casket bearers were Mark Sellers, Michael Ciecorka, Biff Baker, Ben Baker, David Jefferson, and Duncan Baker. Honorary bearers are Jim Rouse, Joe Barrows, Pete Barrows, Bill Barrows, Bill Beverly, John Thompson, Don Jeffries and members of the First Christian Adult Choir. (Paid obituary)
