Joyce Ledbetter McKenzie, 72, of Versailles, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2017, at the UK Markey Center. She enjoyed a charmed childhood as the youngest of nine (Gladys and Rector Ledbetter) on the family farm along the banks of the river they called "The Rocky Broad" in Buncombe County, North Carolina. She came to Kentucky to be educated at Berea College, and then began 32 years of service in the Fayette County Public School System. She enjoyed extensive overseas travel, flower gardening, and a fun association with the Woodford County Woman's Club Garden Department, where she helped plan garden tours and outings. She was a friend of Pisgah Presbyterian Church which she attended for 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Frank Hardesty; a son, Dr. Mark McKenzie, his wife, Shannon, and their daughter, Ainsley; a stepson, Drew Hardesty, and his son, Wyatt; three brothers, Wayne, Don and Lee Ledbetter; two sisters, Carol Miller and Jannelle Martin, and their spouses and children. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline, and two brothers, Guy and Neil. Her life will be celebrated at a private family gathering near her place of birth. (Paid obituary)
