Doris Jane Shumate Tilghman, 89, of Lexington, died Friday, June 16, 2017. A native of Woodford County, she was born Aug. 10, 1927, the daughter of the late Richard and Nettie Lippert Shumate. She worked as a head cashier for the Veterans Hospital. Survivors include a brother, John Shumate, Midway; two grandsons, Byron Scott Tilghman and Brian Keith Tilghman, both of Tennessee; their mother, Janette Grimes, Tennessee; a niece, Mitzi Martha, Lexington; and a nephew, Barry Jones, Lexington. A graveside service was conducted Tuesday, June 20, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
