Jeffrey Ray Howard, 61, died Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Lexington. Born May 25, 1956, in Versailles, he was the son of Ella Lena (Joe) Richards and James Edward Howard. He followed his father's footsteps and joined the U.S. Army. After being stationed throughout the country and abroad, he decided to return to his family. Upon returning, he pursued his education at St. Louis University, and worked in the private sector. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Alyssa (Jonathan) Major, of Tampa, Fla.; three sons, Damon (Melissa) Howard, Fort Wright, Adrian (DaShawna) Howard, and Jalen Howard, Lexington; nine grandchildren, Christian, Isabella, Kailyn, Lillian, Keagan, Everly, Edan, and Za'kayveon, three sisters, René Howard, Carol (Randal) Wilson, and Tamika (Adrian) Adams; seven brothers, Terry Howard, Wayne Howard, Joe Akoben, Boris (Gianne) Howard, Bruce (Vanisha) Howard, Edward Howard, and Tony (Lynn) Howard; an aunt; three uncles; and numerous nieces and nephews. A granddaughter, Katie Howard, of Lexington, is deceased. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 28, at First Baptist Church, Versailles, by the Rev. Dr. Floyd Greene. Burial and military honors followed at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Casket bearers were James Campbell Jr., Trevor Howard, Miles Williams, Christian Howard, Keith White, and Julius Wilson. Honorary bearers were George Blair, George Campbell, Fred Jackson, Stewart Buckner, Glenn Campbell, Ben Richards, and Jeff Richards. Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
