Swisher named full-time Midway softball coach
Tripp Swisher will concentrate full-time on the Midway softball program and relinquish his duties as volleyball coach, Midway University Athletic Director Rusty Kennedy said. "I appreciate all that Coach Swisher has done for the department coaching volleyball and softball the last two years," said Kennedy. "I am excited to watch the continued growth of our softball program under his leadership." Swisher came to Midway in August 2015 as the volleyball and softball coach, but after two seasons at the helm of both programs, he will now focus his time on the softball program. After a tough first season for the Midway softball team, Swisher and the Eagles turned it around in year two when they went 29-18 overall. Midway's 12-6 mark in the River States Conference was good enough for a second-place finish in the final conference standings. The 2017 softball season was the best season in more than a decade at Midway. The season produced a Second Team NAIA All-American, three players earning National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region honors and four players earning All-RSC First Team or Second Team honors. "I am excited to be able to concentrate all of my energy and efforts to the softball program," said Swisher. "I am also grateful and honored that I was able to help in guiding the volleyball program the last two years and I am confident that it will continue to blossom." Swisher and his coaching staff will now begin preparation for the 2018 softball season which begins next February.
