Lady Jackets prep for volleyball season

The Woodford County High School volleyball team is in preparation mode for the coming season. Coach Meghan Bottom is searching for the identity of the team as pre-season draws to a conclusion. "Team chemistry is very positive." said Bottom. "Strong work ethic and lots of enthusiasm out there." The team will be anchored by two seniors, Lauren Smiley and Alex Gililland, with a strong supporting cast consisting of three juniors, four sophomores, and three freshmen. As the Lady Jackets go into season play they will rely heavily on the off-season plyometric, cardio-based conditioning program that Bottom has put in place. "We also have had a focus on fundamentals and game strategy this off season," said Bottom. Most of the pre-season practices have been working on game-paced drills that will emphasize communication and allow the players to be in a position to be aggressive. Bottom is in her fourth season at Woodford County and looks forward to building the camaraderie and watching each player grow individually while the program grows as a whole. The Lady Jackets competed in the Bluegrass State games Aug. 4 to 6 at Lafayette High School and defeated Ballard Memorial and West Carter before falling to Western Hills. The team opens season play at home Aug. 15.
