Smejkal

William Frank Smejkal, 83, of Versailles, husband of Patricia Reese Smejkal, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at his residence. Born May 30, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of the late Frank and Mildred Smejkal. After serving as an active duty member of the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958, he continued his service in the Naval Reserve. He retired from Link Belt in 1991 after a 26-year career. In retirement, he especially enjoyed golfing and family vacations at the lake and beach. He was a member of Moss Hill Country Club. In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a son, Ted (Jodi) Smejkal, Lexington; a daughter, Jeanne (Jeffrey) Dennis, Nicholasville; and a grandson, Caleb. Services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Milward-Southland in Lexington. Private burial was at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators (formerly Hospice of the Bluegrass).
