Roy Miller Benson, 86, of Versailles, KY, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday October 28, 2017 following complications from a fall. Roy was born on August 29, 1931, in Harrison County, KY, to Sarah Francis Cole and James Henry Benson. He grew up at the Methodist Home in Versailles, KY, and is a graduate of Versailles High School, where he excelled in football and baseball. Roy served two years in the US Army and 29 years on the Versailles City Council, and was retired from IBM. He was an avid woodworker and was particularly proud of his handmade duck decoys. Roy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Roberta "Bobbie" Clay Benson; son and daughter-in-law Dale and Judi Benson; grandchildren Joy and Bryan Barnes, Laurel and Xon Hostetter, and Miller and Victoria Benson; great-grandchildren Bradley, Knox, and Cecelia Hostetter, and honorary granddaughter Hayden Welch; as well as a brother, Ray Benson, and sisters Wanda Hall and Ann Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by daughter Janice Clay Noel, and brothers James Benson and Howard Benson. Roy led a very full life and will be missed by many. A gathering of family and friends was held Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 at the Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, Frankfort, followed by a celebration of life ceremony.
