WC Clerk attends convention
Woodford County Clerk, Sandra V. Jones, attended the Kentucky County Clerk’s Association annual convention Nov. 5 through Nov. 8. The Annual Convention brings the county clerks together to discuss and learn the upcoming changes in election law, land records, and motor vehicles.
One of the highlights of the convention is the auction held on behalf of Helping a Veteran Everyday (H.A.V.E.) which is the charitable organization created by the county clerks to raise money for the veterans’ homes in Kentucky.
This year the H.A.V.E. auction raised approximately $6,000 dollars. These funds are used to improve the lives of the men and women who have fought for our country and preserved this country’s right to vote.
The H.A.V.E. auction was created and conducted by Winston Meade, county clerk from Letcher County; James Lewis, county clerk from Leslie County; and Haven King, county clerk from Perry County. In addition to the yearly auction, Winston Meade donates his time and talents to create birdhouses out of the various Kentucky license plates.
The birdhouses are available for sale in the Woodford County Clerk’s office and the proceeds are used to help support the veterans’ home of Thomson-Hood Veteran’s Center, Eastern Kentucky’s Veteran’s Center and Ballard.
If you are looking for a Christmas gift or just want to honor a veteran, stop by the Woodford County Clerk’s office to purchase a birdhouse.
