WCMS basketball loses home opener

The Woodford County Middle School boys' basketball teams had their home opener on Monday, Nov. 13 against Royal Springs. In the 6th grade game, the Titans won by a score of 49-32. Sawyer Gribble and Jack Gibson each scored 5 points for the Tigers.

In the 7th grade game, the Tigers were defeated 46-42. The game was a back and forth contest for all 24 minutes. After trailing by three at halftime, the Tigers came out fast in the third quarter and took a five-point lead. After a Titans timeout, the Tigers had three straight turnovers that changed the game quickly. The Titans took a five-point lead into the start of the fourth quarter. The Tigers could not overcome the Titans defense and a pair of late turnovers played a large part in the defeat. Alex Owens and Parker Polk each scored nine for the Tigers.

The 8th grade team was defeated 47-41 in a physical match up. The Tigers attempted 13 free throws in the first half making just seven. The Titans were in foul trouble for most of the first half and had to sit three of their starters. In the second half, the Tigers fell victim to the Titans' pressure defense and turned the ball over numerous times that resulted in layups. The Tigers were outscored 14-4 in the third quarter and never recovered. Blake Asher led the Tigers with 12 points and was a strong physical presence for the Tigers. Logan Taylor scored 11 points and Morgan Receveur scored nine.
