82-room ,hotel to open in Versailles next summer

A new Holiday Inn Express & Suites under construction in Versailles near the McDonald’s Restaurant is scheduled to open next August, according to Don Howard, a partner with H&W Management Company, which owns and will manage the 82-room hotel.

The four-story Holiday Inn Express should be “under roof” by Dec. 10, if weather doesn’t cause any delays, Howard told The Sun during a telephone interview last week. “That,” he said, “puts us in a good situation to be able to work inside through the wintertime.”

The Holiday Inn Express will also have “a small amount of meeting space” and an indoor pool, according to Howard.

He said the meeting room will provide enough space for about 30 people.

Howard said H&W Management Company has opened hotels in stronger markets, but he and his partners viewed Versailles as a community that “could support a small, select-service hotel.”

He predicted a hotel in Versailles may do better than a market study indicated. One reason for his optimism has been the local government’s proactive approach to bringing more jobs and businesses to Woodford County, he explained.

Howard also sees potential for a lot of weekend activity from tourism and youth sporting events. And he’s hopeful that the new industry coming to Versailles and Kentucky Community and Technical College System’s headquarters being here will generate hotel business on weekdays.

“We just got enough good feelings about Versailles that we think that an 82-room hotel will work there. So we’re excited about it. We’re looking forward to getting it open and … being a part of the Versailles community,” said Howard.

In today’s business climate, Howard described Versailles as a tremendous community with a lot of potential to attract new business. He said the new Holiday Inn Express in Versailles will generate about 25 jobs, including some seasonal.
