• Reception for Vivid Shadows: The Art of Staci McKnight Maney, 2 to 4p.m., main library. (All welcome) Staci McKnight Maney is a painter, photographer, and fiber artist. Her stream-of-consciousness compositions are influenced by text in the background, with her original illustrations applied as a high contrast black silhouette, creating a stunning juxtaposition to an intensely colorful background. Show runs through the end of December.

Monday, Dec. 4

• What Are You Reading? Book Group, 12:00 p.m., Midway branch. (Adults) Broaden your reading horizons. Share your favorite new book and author. Enjoy coffee, a snack, and lively discussions. No assigned books.

• Maker Monday: Crystals, 4 to 5p.m., main library. (Families) Grow amazing crystals, watch how snowflakes form, and crack open a geode. Call 873-5191 to sign up.

• Comic Book Maker, 6:00 p.m., main library. (Ages 11-18) Do you like comics, manga, and Japanese cartooning? Learn how to show expression and emotion in your characters and practice penciling your own characters. Call 873-5191 to sign up.

Tuesday, Dec. 5

• Toddler Tales, 10:00 a.m., main library. (Ages 2-3) Children and caregivers, parents, and/or grandparents enjoy songs, rhymes, stories, and great activities.

• Preschool Story Hour, 11:00 a.m., Midway branch. (Ages 5 and younger) Children (with a favorite adult) have fun with engaging books, songs, and activities.

• Preschool Stories, 11:00 a.m., main library. (Ages 4-5) Books, games, crafts, and music to enhance pre-literacy skills and to have fun.

• Art Attack, 3:00 p.m., Midway branch. (Grades K-4) Draw, trim, glue, paint, and create. Join us for a creative art project, a snack, and a story.

• Holiday Cooking on a Budget, 6:30 p.m., main library. (Adults) Learn how you can serve healthier meals during the holidays while staying on a budget. You will leave with tips and tricks for cooking during the holidays as well as managing your money throughout this time of the year. Presented by Elizabeth Creed Coots, Woodford County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences. Call 873-5191 to sign up.

Wednesday, Dec. 6

• Baby Story Time, 10:00 a.m., main library. (Ages 9-23 mo.) Join us at our new time for songs, rhymes, stories, and activities for babies along with a favorite grown-up.

• Easy Yoga, 6:30 p.m., main library. (Adults) Learn easy yoga exercises to help you stretch, strengthen, and relax. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move. Mats provided. Taught by Emily Saderholm. Call 873-5191 to sign up.

• Teen Game Time, 4 to 5 p.m., main library. (Ages 11-18) Hang out with friends and discover your next favorite game at the library. Various board, card, and video games will be available for you to enjoy. Tasty snacks and drinks provided. No sign up necessary.

Thursday, Dec. 7

• Creative Café: Pearler Beads, 4 p.m., main library. (Ages 11-18) Join us at the library for this drop-in craft hour, where we’ll make something new every week. No sign up necessary.

• Coloring for Grown-ups, 6 p.m., Midway branch. (Adults) Coloring can relieve stress and anxiety while promoting creativity. Revisit your youth and color with other adults using wax crayons, colored pencils, or markers. Unwind with a cup of tea and use your imagination to create a beautiful picture. • Busy Builders, 6 to 7 p.m., main library. (Families) Kids and parents enjoy open play with our Legos, manipulatives, straws and connectors, and more. No sign up required.

• Writers’ Group, 6:30 p.m., main library. (Teens and adults) Join this fun group of fellow wordsmiths and kick-start your imagination with creative writing exercises. All levels of experience are welcome.

Friday, Dec. 8

• Midway Branch Holiday Open House, 3 to 6 p.m., Midway branch. (Families) Drop in to make a gingerbread house. Light refreshments will be served and children from Northside Elementary School will be here to perform a few musical numbers. No sign up necessary.

• Minecraft Time, 4 to 6 p.m., main library. (Ages 12-18) Bring your own computer or use one of ours to play in our custom-built Minecraft world at the library. Build something incredible, battle in our arena, or just spend time exploring the world your fellow Minecrafters have built. Participants must have their own Minecraft PC account. Saturday, Dec. 9

• Super Story Time: Enormous Elephants, 11 a.m., main library. (Families) Make amazing “elephant’s toothpaste,” a hands-on chemistry experiment with Alltech scientists. Learn about amazing elephants and make a fun elephantine craft. Call 873-5191 to sign up.

• Holiday Craftstravaganza for Adults, 1 to 3 p.m., main library. (Adults) Holiday crafts are fun for everyone – especially adults. Enjoy some quiet crafting time during the busy holiday season by dropping by to relax with a selection of holiday-themed projects in a cozy setting – featuring a hot cocoa bar!
