Mary Dan Karsner Raider, 71, wife of Anthony Lloyd Raider, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2017.
Born October 23, 1946 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Albert Bryant and Margaret Ellen Morris Karsner.
She retired after 20 years as the office assistant for Gainsborough Farm (now Darley).
Survivors, in addition to her husband of 41 years, include her daughter, Margaret Anissa Penn Davis, her son-in-law whom she loved as a son, Jeffrey H. Davis, of Versailles; her granddaughters, Rebekah Duke Davis (Clinton) Cahall of Durham, NC; Margaret Alexandra Davis of Covington, KY; three siblings, Nancy Ellen Karsner Florence of Lexington; Margaret Bryant Karsner (Pegi) Ivancevich of Spring, TX; and Albert Creath Karsner of Versailles. She had numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Buford Penn III and her son, Edgar Duke Penn II.
In addition to spending time with her family, Mary Dan loved researching genealogy. In order to honor her ancestors, she was a member of many lineage societies including the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Mayflower Society, Daughters of Colonial Wars, and First Families of Kentucky. She was an active long time member of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church.
Visitation was held 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Pisgah Cemetery with Rev. Woody Berry officiating. Honorary pallbearers were William Downey, Meredith Downey and Eileen Kelty. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hindman Settlement School, the Pisgah Church Scholarship Fund, or a charity of one’s choice.
