Billie Yvonne Rains, 78, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
She was born in Williamsburg, Kentucky to the late William M. and Susie Prewitt Rains. She was a 1956 graduate of Woodbine High School in Whitley County. She was the editor of the Whitley Republican newspaper and later worked at Bluegrass Community Action in Frankfort. She was also a member of the Versailles Church of Christ.
Survived by three nieces, Carol A. West, Emily West Penwell, both of Lawrenceburg; and Linda Myers of South Carolina; a nephew, Wayne King, South Carolina; two great nieces, Malory Ridgway (James), Harrodsburg; and Helen Johnson (Michael Garrison), South Lebanon, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Jean West, Cleda Ragle, and Opal King, and a brother, Roy E. Rains.
Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, with services following at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home with Derrick Sumeral officiating. Burial will be Friday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Rains Family Cemetery-Watts Creek, Whitley County, Kentucky.
