25 Years Ago December 17, 1992 William E. Wilson, 71, who founded the former Wilson Drug Store here in December 1951 , died Dec. 12. Wilson sold the store in July 1973. W. Benjamin Crain has been elected chairman of the United Bank Board of Directors. Announcing as political candidates this week are Alan George for district judge (George later withdrew in order to run for county attorney instead) and Bill Ahern for fifth district magistrate. Receiving Woodford Hospital Auxiliary service awards recently were Mary Lee Anderson, Lillian Sutherland, Rae Wanda Wilkirson, Frances Brown, and Elizabeth Booth. Hawthorne Graddy of Versailles is a student at St. Thomas Choir School in New York City. Master Sergeant David P. Resinger has retired from the U. S. Air Force after 23 years’ service and returned to Woodford County, where he formerly resided. The Woodford County High School wrestling team, which is rated number one in the state, romped to the championship of the King of the Bluegrass Tournament Saturday in Louisville. Individual weight class titles were won by Joe Carr, Robert Kemper, Shawn Meckley, Jimmy Knight. Kent Berry, and Matt Hecker. 40 Years Ago December 22, 1977 The Oakey L. and Ethel Witherspoon Alexander Foundation of New York City has made a $550,000 grant to the endowment fund of the Woodford County Memorial Hospital. Bill Hoskins, a partner in the law firm of Nave and Hoskins, has been appointed trial commissioner for Woodford County. Mother Maria Kurz, founder of the Taylor Manor Nursing known here in civic activities, died Friday at the age of 84. The wedding of Jeanette Alane Smith and Joseph Howard Barrows was solemnized Nov. 25. Robert Richardson has been re-elected chairman of the Woodford County ASC Committee.
