Frances Lee Sturgeon, 78, wife of Ray Sturgeon, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Ephriam McDowell Regional Hospital in Danville.
Born on Feb. 5, 1939, in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Fred Wyatt and Josephine Sweeney Wyatt Royalty. She was a graduate of Henry Clay High School in Lexington. She worked in retail sales for many years in Lexington at Mr. Wiggs and Higgins KRI Appliance.
Frances was a member of Arlington Christian Church and Lancaster Christian Church.
In addition to her husband of 21 years, Raymond Sturgeon, Lancaster; survivors include a son, Fredrick Lee (Samantha) Thornberry, Clay City; four daughters, Karen (Delmer) Hamilton, Shawnee, Oklahoma; Stephanie (Daniel) Murrell, Tecumseh, Oklahoma; Helen (Donnie) Cross, Lexington; Betty Ann (Jake) Bentley, Nicholasville; family friend, Bill Walton, Paris; fourteen grandchildren, David, Dean, Trae, Brian, LeeAnn, Damen, Andrea, Justin, Brandon, Angel, Chase, Deeandra, Heather, and Jonathon Jr.; twenty-five great-grandchildren, Nathan, Garrett, Allison, Mickeala, Gage, Hunter, Emily, Kara, Alexis, Brayden, Gracin, Layla, Teagan, Easton, Hannah, Sianna, Jacob, Shelby, Christian, Haley, Joseph, James, Sophia, Colton, and Gunnar. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by a son, Philip Thornberry; two sisters, Mary Roberson and Betty Hobby; two grandsons, Spencer Haberland and Matthew May Thornberry; and a stepfather, Alvin Royalty.
Services will be held today, Thursday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by Pastor Bill Wallace and Pastor Don Burton. Pallbearers will be David Thornberry, Dean Gaunce, Trae Soper, Damen Bach, Justin Thornberry, Brandon Thornberry. honorary pallbearers will be, Bill Walton, Jonathan David and Mason Jordan. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
