Doris Jean Sears, 84, of Versailles, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born on June 2, 1933, in Versailles, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Maggie Collins Winkfield. She was a 1941 graduate of

Simmons High School and was a member of First Baptist Church, Versailles.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Anna) Sears and Eugene (Doresa) Sears; one daughter, Teresa Sears, all of Versailles; one brother, George Robert Winkfield, Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren, Thomas Chenault, Regina Sears, Telisia Sears and Joshua Martin; special friend, Pearl C. Higgins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Zach “Tom” Winkfield, Ben Frank Winkfield, Milton “Skeeter” Winkfield, Warren Winkfield and Wilgus “Billy” Winkfield; two sisters, Hattie M. Bondurant and Gladys Payne; and two sons, George Sears and Mark Sears.

Services will be conducted today at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Floyd Greene officiating. Pallbearers will be Dupree Gill, Alonzo Gaines, John Maxberry, Felix Maxberry, Terrance Hocker and William Hocker. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons and Trustees of First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Steele Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home.
