Arrest in possible theft ring

A Versailles man was arrested Friday, Feb. 2 after police found approximately $25,000 worth of stolen items at his residence at 214 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Versailles Police Lieutenant Michael Fortney said investigators believe Steve Dale Abbott Jr., 27, was part of a theft ring operating in

Woodford and surrounding counties. Fortney said a search warrant was obtained and executed after officers received a tip involving a stolen truck and trailer.

The department is now working to match the stolen property, which includes vehicles, tools, trailers, other construction equipment and firearms, with recent theft reports.

Abbott was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree possession of a controlled substance.

He was arraigned Monday and is being held in the Woodford County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
