Woodford Wrestling Club shines at State tournament
The Woodford County Wrestling Club had a great showing at the State Youth Wrestling Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 4. The Woodford team had 12 state placers including two first place finishers.
Trevor Steele placed sixth in the bantam 62-pound weight class and was 3-3 in the tournament. Steele's day was highlighted by a win by fall over Brennin Singleton (Boyle County) to reach the consolation semifinals.
Aiden Tipton did not place in the bantam 85-pound weight class. Tipton was 0-2 in the event.
Maxx Escaloni placed sixth in the bantam 85-pound weight class. Escaloni was 3-3 in the tournament, and lost in the fifth-place match to Wiley Potts (Colonel Wrestling Academy).
Jack Garrison placed second in the bantam heavyweight weight class. Garrison received a bye into the semifinals and won by decision over Brennan Stevenson (Fern Creek). Garrison lost by decision in the final to Shade Combs (Perry County).
Brycen Gray placed second in the intermediate 53-pound weight class. Gray won by fall in both the quarterfinal and semifinal matches but was pinned in the final by Brennen East (Walton Verona).
Dylan Hurt did not place in the intermediate 63-pound weight class. Hurt was 0-2 in the tournament.
Devyn Wilkinson placed first in the intermediate 71-pound weight class. Wilkinson won his finals matchup with Micah Thompson (Boyle County) by decision. Wilkinson had two pins in the tournament.
Braylen Livingston placed fifth in the intermediate 77-pound weight class. Livingston won the fifth-place match by decision over Brady Skaggs (LaRue County).
Dakota Tipton did not place in the intermediate 77-pound weight class. He was 0-2 in the event.
Nikko Strong-Walker placed fourth in the intermediate 84-pound weight class. Strong-Walker had a pair of pins on his way to the third-place match before losing by major decision to Bode Darland (Carr Wrestling Academy).
Ryan Brown did not place in the intermediate 93-pound weight class. He was 0-2 in the event.
Caleb Rogers did not place in the novice 63-pound weight class. He was 0-2 in the event.
Landon Yost did not place in the novice 67-pound weight class. He was 0-2 in the event.
Conner Russell did not place in the novice 74-pound weight class. He was 1-2 in the event.
Aiden Slugantz did not place in the novice 74-pound weight class. Slugantz was 0-2 in the event.
Samuel Garrison placed first in the novice 135-pound weight class. He was 4-0 in the tournament with three wins by fall.
Landon Wettlaufer placed second in the middle school 70-pound weight class. Wettlaufer received a bye into the semifinals where he beat Connor Metcalf (LaRue County) by decision. He lost in the finals to Ayden Yates (Taylor Mill).
Gabriel Burden placed second in the middle school 86-pound weight class. Burden pinned three opponents to reach the final. He lost by technical fall in the finals to Caleb Barnes (Johnson County).
Aiden Zaparanick-Brown placed sixth in the middle school 98-pound weight class. He was 2-2 in the tournament.
Ashton Gullion placed sixth in the middle school 140-pound weight class. He was 3-3 in the tournament and all three wins came by fall.
