Margaret Carter Jackson, 89, widow of Joe Jackson, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018.
Born on April 13, 1928, in Alton Station, Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Reuben and Alice Christine Young Carter. She was the 1946 Salutatorian of Simmons High School and the first Miss Simmons in 1945. She retired from Rand McNally, had worked in the cafeterias at several schools and was a seasonal powder room attendant at Keeneland. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Versailles since 1940.
Survivors include five children, Faye Young, Lexington; Marilyn (Stephen) Mason, Frankfort; Yolanda (Byron) Costner, Lexington; Nathanael (Janis) Carter, Versailles; Joseph (Shelley) Jackson, Lexington; a sister, Ruth Beatty, Lexington; a sister-in-law, Sadie Carter, Highland, California; 15 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Jackson; a sister, Charles Ann Browning; and five brothers, John, William, James, Cloyd and George Carter.
Services were conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Floyd Greene officiating. Pallbearers were Arvade Young, Stephen Mason Jr., Ashley Young, Matthew Mason, Von Nicki Nicholson, Jordan Jackson, Phillip Jackson, Andrew Jackson, Jared Costner, and Larry Wallace. Her nephews served as honorary pallbearers. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort.
