Kentucky State Police, investigate fatal collision

On Thursday Feb. 22, Kentucky State Police responded to a single vehicle collision on I- 64 around the 32 mile marker eastbound in Shelby County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007 Mercury Mariner driven by Jessica L. Carter, 26 of Lawrenceburg, was traveling east on I-64 when a tan SUV passed her and pulled in front of her. Carter then passed the SUV and pulled in front of it. The SUV passed her again and debris started coming from the SUV. Carter, along with other motorists, started to swerve to miss the objects.

Carter lost control of her vehicle, went off the roadway onto the right shoulder. The vehicle rolled over several times before coming to rest upside down on the right shoulder. The SUV continued eastbound and did not stop. Carter was transported to University of Louisville where she was later pronounced deceased (see obituary on page 7).

Kentucky State Police are seeking any information about the SUV or any other parties who may have witnessed or were involved in the events leading up to the fatal collision. If you have any information that could help, contact the Kentucky State Police, Post 12 at 502-227-2221, attention to Tpr. Johnson, unit 1133.

Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Fire and EMS and the Shelby County Coroner.

The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police Post 12 and collision reconstruction units.
