Phelps files for re-election
First elected in 1998, Mary Jane Wilhoit Phelps has announced her re-election for a sixth term as District Judge for the 14th Judicial District, Division I, which includes Woodford, Scott and Bourbon Counties.
In addition to her regular duties as district judge, she also serves as Chief Regional District Judge for the Bluegrass Region, which includes 11 central Kentucky counties. Having been appointed by Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr., this position has the responsibility for appointing special judges to fill in for sitting judges in the region who need to be absent for any reason.
Since 2000, she has presided over Scott County Teen Court, and most recently, over Woodford County Teen Court. The Kentucky Court of
Justice honored her for her efforts and for her involvement with the Kentucky High School Mock Trial Program with Law Related Education Awards in 2002, 2004 and 2011.
Judge Phelps has presided over more than 100,000 cases during her judicial career and is uncontested for re-election this year. She lives in Versailles with her husband, Wes, and their two children, Laura Jane and Christopher. They are members of Journey Church.
