Russell Dale Kirkpatrick, 61, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, March 10, 2018.
Born February 2, 1957, he was the son of the late Dr. Robert Larrimer Kirkpatrick Jr. of Saegertown, Pennsylvania, and Nancy Mowry of Gloucester, Virginia. He received his M.S. in genetics from North Carolina State University (1983) and Ph.D.a.b.d. in molecular genetics three years later. He moved his family to Woodford County in 1986, where he was self-employed as a businessman and farmer. Being both creative-minded and talented with tools, he was known for his intricate wood turnings, reproduction antique furniture and electrophoresis equipment for gene sequencing. He was an active member of Wings of Refuge Church in Mortonsville. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Randall. He is survived by his wife, Elke Endert and four children, Rachel Ann (James L.) Secrist, Ponte Vedra, Florida; Brenda Joy (Joshua) Brooks, Lexington; Benjamin Paul (Bailey King) Kirkpatrick, Berea and John Clayton Kirkpatrick, Versailles; and a grandchild, Terra Athena.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, at Wings of Refuge Church in Mortonsville followed by services at 11 a.m. Pallbearers will be Donald Bowman, Kenneth Reed, James Secrist, Joshua Brooks, Benjamin Kirkpatrick and John Kirkpatrick. Those wishing to stay for potluck lunch at noon are requested to please bring a dish to share.
