If you want to see “The World’s Largest Leprechaun” make plans to visit Midway this coming Saturday. He will be just one of the featured attractions in downtown Midway’s Saint Paddy’s Day Parade this Saturday. Yes, it’s Midway’s very first St. Paddy’s Day event.

The shenanigans will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning March 17. Restaurants will be opening at 11 a.m. Participate in the “Shamrock Ramble” as five Midway restaurants will be serving up beverages…. can you say green beer… appetizers, and food specials. Get your free Shamrock Ramble ticket and check out the five participating restaurants. To get your ticket marked, leave your ticket at the last restaurant you visit to be eligible to win one of five special prizes. There will be other vendors along the sidewalks. Shamrock Parade at 3 p.m. Green kettle corn, green beer, beads, trinkets, games and so much more.

There will be Pot of Gold children’s activities along with the music of the Irish playing throughout the day. Then, at 3 p.m. Midway will be having its first parade in over 10 years. The Parade Marshall will be Dr. John P. Marsden, President of Midway University. The parade will have decorated wagons, bicycles, fire engines, horses, and of course, “The World’s Tallest Leprechaun.” There is also a rumor that Winnie the Pooh will be at the parade promoting this year’s Midway’s “Giant Pumpkin Project.” Visit the St. Patrick’s Day in Midway Facebook event page for details.

Organizers hope that lots of Midwegians will want to say that they participated in Midway’s first Irish parade. We are looking for anyone who wants to dress up, dress their pets up, ride in wagons, golf carts, and there will be a special section for those that want to be in the skateboard platoon. Please register your group or organization by March 15 with John McDaniel at 859-492-0658. We request that all entries that involve the youngsters be accompanied by an adult.
