Goss earns All-American honors
Woodford County Middle School eighth-grader Reece Goss won the 125-pound weight class at the AAU Spring National Championship in Kingsport, Tenn on Saturday, March 17. Goss continues to ride the momentum he gained at the Kentucky state middle school championship where he swept his way to an undefeated season and became state champion. Goss also lettered on the WCHS wrestling team for the second time this season and competed in high pressure situations including the Kentucky state dual championships at Lindsey Wilson College.
“My practice time with the high school team prepared me for days like today,” said Goss. “There were many times where I was challenged by my teammates, my coaches and my parents because they believed in what I could do. “
Goss won by technical fall 17-2 over Jordan Trevino (North Georgia Spartans) in the first round. In the quarterfinal he won by a 5-3 decision over over Cade Sousa (The Grind Wrestling). Goss won in sudden victory over Joshua Sturgeon (Fort Mill Wrestling) in the semifinals. Goss won by tech fall 17-2 over Steven Fisak (Wildcat Wrestling) in the final to win the All-American honor in his weight class.
“It feels amazing to see how far I've come in this sport and the work that it took to get here reminds me that I am not done yet,” said Goss. “I want to prove myself and to continue to work hard for the next four years of high school wrestling. I could not have have done any of this with out the support of my coaches, parents and my sister.”
