WCHS track and field gets off to great start

The Woodford County High School track and field team hosted the Luck O' the Irish meet on Saturday, March 17. The Lady Jackets placed first out of nine teams and the boys placed second out of 10 teams.

"Our first outdoor meet was great competition for our athletes,” said WCHS Coach Tracey Sobolewski. “With 11 top-three finishes from the girls and eight from the boys we are anticipating a successful season. Every athlete now knows where they are and what they need to work on."

WCHS senior Jai Burgess placed fourth in the boys' 100-meter sprint (11.50). Fellow senior Landon Saum was 17th (12.05). In the boys' 200-meter run, sophomore Mason Coburn placed 14th (24.95).

WCHS sophomore James Hawkins placed 17th (59.94) in the boys 400-meter run and senior Luke Caldwell placed 25th (1:07.53). WCHS senior Peter McGowan placed 11th in the boys' 800-meter run (2:24.78) and sophomore Mitchell Scott placed 17th (2:29.06).

McGowan placed sixth in the 1600-meter run (5:07.68) and sophomore Kyle Holt was 15th (5:23.61).

WCHS Sophomore Justin Lehmkuhler won the 110-meter hurdle (16.4). Saum won the 300-meter hurdle (42.38) and Lehmkuhler was third (44.99).

Lehmkuhler won the boys' high jump with a height of five feet, 10 inches and freshman Joshua Zeefe was 12th with four feet, six-inches.

WCHS senior Drew Richie was fifth in boys' pole vault with a height of seven-feet, six-inches. Freshman Shaun Lavin was seventh with a height of seven feet.

WCHS senior Jordan Upton won the triple jump by a total of three feet. Upton jumped to fourty two-feet, four inches. Senior Collin Hudson finished sixth in the boys' shot put with thirty six-feet, six- inches. Hudson also placed fifth in the boys' discuss with one hundred 12 feet, eight inches.

WCHS Freshman Kamari Black won the girls 100-meter spring (12.82) and junior Breanna Lewis was 10th (13.8).

WCHS senior Makenzie Thomas placed 15th in the girls' 200-meter sprint (29.59). Sophmore Caroline Murray placed 10th in girls' 400-meter run (1:14.40), senior Eliza Bradshaw was 11th(1:20.02) and freshman Ana Ruvalcaba was 12th (1:20.17).

WCHS freshman Megan Davis placed 15th in the girls' 800-meters (3:01.87). Freshman Katie Gatewood was 18th (3:12.01), freshman Taylor Dotson was 19th (3:12.23) and freshman Ashley Gonzalez was 20th (3:13.40).

Gatewood placed ninth in the girls' 1600-meter (6:17.02). Freshman Katherine Crain placed 10th in the girls' 3200 meters (14:55.71).

WCHS freshman Callie Gormley won the girls' 110-meter hurdle (17.9) and placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdle (53.34). Junior Esther Bradshaw placed third in the girls 300-meter hurdle (52.37).

WCHS sophomore Kasey Montgomery placed third in the girls' high jump with four-feet, two inches. Sophomore Allison Ferguson won the girls' pole vault event with a height of 11 feet. Freshman Jillian Elsmore was third with seven-feet, six-inches and sophomore Trinity Sherrod was sixth with six feet, six inches.

In the girls' long jump, Black finished fourth with 14-feet, seven and a half inches. Sophomore Raven Upton was 14th with a distance of 12 feet.

Black won the girls' triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 11- nches. Upton was sixth with 34 feet.

WCHS freshman Legend Burgess placed second in the girls' shot put with 29 feet, five inches and second in the discus with 89 feet, eight inches.
