Audrey Bredall Smith, widow of the late Dr. Charles M. Smith, died March 26, 2018. Born on Oct. 1, 1926, in Sioux Valley Township, Union County, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Blanche Squires and Andrew Jensen Bredall. She received her nurses training at the Sioux Valley Hospital in affiliation with Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After completing Army Cadet training with the rank of Lieutenant, she served as an RN during the Korean conflict. While stationed at the Army-Navy Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas she met and married Captain Charles Smith. She was instrumental in helping her husband establish his dental practice in Versailles. Her strong faith was evidenced by her long-time membership at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and her devotion to family. As a wife, mother and grandmother, Audrey always made family her primary focus, providing humor, compassion and dispensing common sense wisdom on all occasions. Survivors include a daughter, Jean (Joe) Barrows; a son, Charles A. Smith; and two grandchildren, Parry and Hayden Barrows. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jo Smith of Winchester and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ivens. Per her request, a Graveside Service was held in the Versailles Cemetery on Saturday, March 31. Memorial donations may be made to the Woodford Humane Society. (Paid obituary)
