George Washington Scearce, 90, husband of Jessie Cunningham Scearce, died Sunday, April 8, 2018, in Lexington.

Born on Feb. 22, 1928, in Versailles, he was the son of the late Thomas James and Nannie Matthews Scearce. He worked for St. John’s Episcopal Church and retired from Kuhlman Electric. He also worked on the farm for John Lewis Owen. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a sister, Nancy Combs, Charlotte, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Scearce; and six sisters, Katherine Scearce, Clara Johnson, Josephine Smith, Elizabeth Washington, Sally Hope and Martha Crawford.

Services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at First Baptist Church, by the Rev. Dr. Floyd Greene. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home.
