Racket Jackets send five to WCI finals


WCHS freshman Zachary Stiefel reached the boys' singles final by beating Lexington Christian Academy's Ben Philpot (8-2) and Lexington Catholic's Victor Wei (8-3). WCHS senior Eli Smith beat Lexington Catholic's Ben Deaton by forfeit and won (8-5) over Western Hills' Bradley Hughes to reach the finals.

WCHS junior Mason McIntyre and freshman Evan Bentley won (8-0) over Lexington Catholic's Roger Campion and John Ramsey and won (8-3) over Western Hills' McCoy Patrick and Eduardo Benevides to reach the doubles finals. WCHS sophomore Colin Charles and eight-grader Gus Smith won (8-3) over LCA's Jack Jenkins and Nick Napier, but lost to Lexington Catholic's Travis True and Thomas Kaplin (2-8).

WCHS junior Addison Beck reached the finals by winning matches over Lexington Catholic's Madison Miller (9-8) and LCA's Kate Farley (8-3).

WCHS freshman Claire Pinkston won (8-3) over Western Hills' Hannah Neal, but lost (0-8) to Lexington Catholic's Amanda Neal.

WCHS senior Alyssa Feldner and sophomore Nicole Feldner won (8-3) over Western Hills' Olivia Onodu and Sarah Arnett, but lost to Lexington Catholic's Ak Sashy and Jay Mair (1-8).

Tates Creek

The WCHS boys' tennis team beat Tates Creek 5-0 on Friday, April 13. Stiefel won the No.1 singles match (8-0) over David Talbott and Joe Kowalke won the No. 2 singles match over Dominic Robinette (8-3). Eli Smith won the No. 3 singles match (8-1) over Suharb Elmselati.

Bentley and McIntyre won the No. 1 doubles match over Hunter Gregg and Jose Guijosa (8-4). Gus Smith and Colin Charles won the No.2 doubles match over Adam Suliemon and Chad Beohtol (8-6).

The Lady Jackets won all four of their matches over Tates Creek. Beck won the No. 1 singles match over Kinsleigh Jones (8-1) and Pinkston won the No. 2 singles match over Claire Hancock (8-4). Nicole Feldner and Alyssa Feldner won 9-7 over Ellen Herrington and Shenia Jones (9-7) in the No. 1 doubles match. WCHS sophomores Sophie Wingo and Caroline Miller won the No. 2 doubles match over Maddy Adams and Erin Spencer (8-3).

Henry Clay

The Woodford County boys' tennis team lost 3-2 to the Henry Clay Blue Devils on April 12. In the No. 1 singles match, Stiefel lost in straight sets to Phillip Preist (1-6,1-6). Kowalke lost in straight sets to Kian Rosenau in the No. 2 singles match (1-6, 1-6) and Eli Smith won the No. 3 singles match over Nikolai Zivkovic (6-4, 6-1). Bentley and McIntyre lost to Evan Duggal and Sam Clark in the No. 1 doubles match (6-2, 5-7, 4-10). Gus Smith and Charles beat Matt Klee and Tom Politas in the No. 2 doubles match (6-4, 6-4).

The Lady Jackets beat LCA 3-2. Beck won the No. 1 singles match over Lisette Donofrio (6-2, 6-3). Pinkston won the No. 2 singles match over Sarah Clark (6-3, 6-2). In the No. 1 doubles match, Nicole and Alyssa Feldner lost in straight sets to Kennedy Herring and Christina Duvall (0-6, 4-6). In the No. 2 doubles match, Wingo and Sophie Miller lost to Isabelle Kauffman and Olivia Brown (2-6, 4-6).

Beck and Hannah Brady won the No. 3 doubles match over Madeline Lepley and Annie Varner (7-6, 0-6, 10-8).

Lexington Christian Academy

The WCHS boys' won four of five matches over Lexington Christian Academy on Wednesday, April 11. In the No. 1 singles match, Stiefel won 8-2 over Levi Messner. Kowalke lost 5-8 to Ben Philpot in the No. 2 singles match.

In the No. 1 doubles match, McIntyre and Bentley won 8-1 over Leo Fults and Alex Dick. Stiefel and Kowalke won 8-1 over Steven Young and Nick Napier in the No. 2 doubles match. Eli and Gus Smith won 8-2 over Jack Jenkins and Brady Wortz in the No. 3 doubles match.

The WCHS girls' were defeated 6-0 by LCA. In the No. 1 singles match, Beck lost 1-8 to Lauren Waddles. In the No. 2 singles match, Pinkston lost 5-8 to Lydia Prince. Alyssa and Nicole Feldner lost 1-8 to Caroline Lancaster and Jessica Hill in the No. 1 doubles match. Wingo and Caroline Miller lost 0-8 to Callie Pettigrew and London Olive in No. 2 doubles. Beck and Nicole Feldner lost 6-8 to Kayla Corbin and Sarah Waddles in No. 3 doubles. In the No. 4 doubles match, Hannah Brady and Katelyn Hamilton lost 3-8 to Sasannah Prince and Sallie Kate Goff.

Scott County

The boys' team won all five matches over Scott County on Tuesday, April 10. In the No. 1 singles match, Spradlin won 8-2 over Hayate Takeda. Kowalke won the No.2 singles match 8-0 over Joshua Williams. Eli Smith won the No. 3 singles match 8-0 over Jacob Marian.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Bentley and McIntyre won 8-1 over Ben Siler and Cameron Rice. Stiefel and Ison won the No. 2 doubles match 8-3 over Paxton Turner and Evan Martin.

The Lady Jackets won two of six matches against the Lady Cardinals. In the No. 1 singles match, Pinkston lost 1-8 to Lauren Moore. Wingo lost the No. 2 singles match 0-8 to Grace Gardner. Nicole Feldner won the No. 3 singles match 8-0 over Marie Korsgaard and Alyssa Feldner won the No. 4 singles match 8-0 over Sarah Bryant. In the No. 1 doubles match, the Feldner sisters lost 0-8 to Carlee Denny and Raven Jones. In the No. 2 doubles match, Allison and Caroline Miller lost 1-8 to Megan Moore and Carson Ayres.
