Lady Jackets hit three homers in rout of Henry Clay
The Woodford County High School softball team whipped Henry Clay on Monday, May 7. WCHS sophomores Abby Moffett and Delaney Enlow and eighth-grader Liz Edwards hit home runs for the Lady Jackets. Edwards got the win, going five and a third innings. She allowed six runs on five hits and five walks. She also struck out nine Lady Blue Devil batters. Eighth-grader Caroline Marshall pitched one-third of an inning, allowing two hits and striking out one batter. WCHS freshman Claire Lehmkuhler earned the save by pitching a clean one-and-a -third inning.
Moffett led the Lady Jackets with five RBI and junior Emily Hestand drove in a pair. Enlow was one-for-one and was walked four times. Lehmkuhler was three-for-four at the plate and scored four runs.
The Lady Jackets defeated Lafayette, 6-1, on Friday, May 4. Lehmkuhler dazzled once again, pitching seven innings while allowing four hits and striking out 12 batters.
Enlow hit a long three-run home run to center field in the top of the fourth inning to give the Lady Jackets the lead. Woodford scored its fourth run of the inning on an error and took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the inning.
Enlow drove in her fourth run of the game in the top of the fifth when she hit a sacrifice fly to score senior Bailee Ramnes. Senior Paige Hampton grounded out to first base, scoring Lehmkuhler to give the Lady Jackets a 6-0 lead.
The Lady Generals scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Lehmkuhler struck out the final batter to end the game.
The Lady Jackets won a 4-2 thriller over Madison Southern on Wednesday, May 2. Eighth-grader Liz Edwards started the game for the Jackets and pitched three and two-third innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out seven. With the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Moffett hit a three-run home run to give the Jackets a 4-1 lead.
Lehmkuhler pitched in relief and closed out the game for the Jackets. She pitched three and a third innings and allowed one run on three hits while striking out six.
Moffett was three-for-three at the plate with three RBI. Enlow and sophomore Kasey Abel were two-for-three. Enlow led the Lady Jackets with two stolen bases.
The WCHS Lady Jackets shutout Collins High School, 6-0 on Tuesday, May 1. Lehmkuhler was fantastic in the circle. She pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits and striking out 15 batters.
Enlow hit a line drive home run to center field to lead off the top of the second inning to give the Lady Jackets a 1-0 lead.
Enlow hit a lead-off double to start the top of the fourth inning and later scored on an error.
The Lady Titans hit a pair of singles in the bottom of the fourth but Lehmkuhler struck out the next two batters to end the rally.
Rose hit a double in the fifth inning and scored on a single by Moffett. Hampton singled home Moffett to increase the Lady Jacket lead to 4-0.
Freshman Tatum Wimberly singled to start the top of the sixth inning and scored on a double by Lehmkuhler.
Moffett led the Lady Jackets with two RBI.
