Art In The Park Artist Spotlight

David Hayward grew up in Cincinnati where his grandfather taught him woodworking around the age of four. As was his grandfather’s habit, David also uses building as a way to release creative energy and relax. David makes furniture, marching band props, and does other odd tinkering.

Having always been drawn to guitar music, once he learned that people used to make homemade guitars, he was hooked on the idea. He read the history and found out how they were made and what made them work. David makes his Hayward Cigar Box Guitars following the same traditional homemade instrument rules… there are no rules! Basically, everything in the house and garage is considered a guitar part. Each cigar box guitar is a unique creation with its own sound and appearance.

Come visit David’s booth at the 10th annual Art in the Park, Friday, May 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the lawn of the Woodford Inn.
