Racket Jackets compete at regional tennis tournament

The Woodford County High School tennis team competed in the Region 11 tennis tournament May 7-9 at Shilito Park in Lexington. WCHS junior Mason McIntyre and freshman Evan Bentley clinched a state tournament berth by reaching the semifinals in doubles.

WCHS junior Evan Spradlin won (6-0, 6-1) over Lexington Catholic's Victor Wei in the opening round of boys' singles. Spradlin lost in the second round to Richmond Model's Cole Wilson (06, 6-1).

Sophomore Joe Kowalke won his opening round singles match over Richmond Model's Garth Pais (2-6, 6-3, 12-10). He lost in the second round to Henry Clay's Kian Rosenau (1-6, 2-6).

In doubles, Junior Ben Ison and freshman Zachary Stiefel won their opening round match (6-0, 6-0) over Frederick Douglass's Lukins and Sharrif. The duo lost in the second round by Henry Clay's Clark and Duggal (0-6, 1-6).

McIntyre and Bentley received a bye in the first round and won (6-0, 6-0) over Madison Central's Dexter and Morrison. In the quarterfinals, McIntyre and Bentley beat Dunbar's Matthews and Smith (7-5, 7-5). The Woodford duo lost in the semifinals to the number one seed, Henry Clay's Andrews and Folsum (2-6, 1-6).

Girls

WCHS junior Addison Beck won her opening round singles match over Lafayette's Fuku Nakagaki (6-1, 6-1). In the second round, Beck beat Richmond Model's Sheri Warns (6-1, 6-4) but lost to number one seeded Olivia Gallagher of Scott County in the quarterfinals (1-6, 0-6).

Freshman Claire Pinkston won her first round singles match over Sayre's Kate Christenson (6-0, 6-0). Pinkston fell to Scott County's Megan Moore (1-6, 1-6) in the second round.

Senior Alyssa Feldner and sophomore Nicole Feldner won the opening round doubles match over Madison Central's Rice and Rahimzadeh (6-2, 6-1). The WCHS duo lost in the second round to Scott County's Gardner and Moore (0-6, 0-6).

Junior Allison Miller and sophomore Sophie Wingo won their opening round doubles match over Madison Central's Long and Castillo (6-2, 6-4). Miller and Wingo lost in the second round to Scott County's Denny and Jones (1-6, 0-6).
