JoNell Wilson Smith, 76, widow of Carl O. Smith, died Thursday, May 10, 2018.
Born on Nov. 10, 1941, in Versailles, she was the daughter of the late Graddy and Minnie Muriel Wilson.
Family was most important to JoNell. She would always do anything she could to help family or a friend. She was a 20 year breast cancer survivor, having the disease twice. JoNell was a cafeteria cook for many years at Nonesuch Elementary. She also worked as a cook and dietician at Homestead and Lexington Manor nursing homes in Lexington. She was a member of Truth Community Church in Nonesuch. She loved watching the birds and always took time to smell the flowers.
JoNell is survived by her children, Bonnie (Tony) Taylor, Keith (Becky) Smith, both of Versailles; and Jennie Rebecca Smith (Andy Gilson), Lexington; three sisters, Marie Currens, Lawrenceburg; Mary Abney, Nicholasville; and Peggy Sutherland, Versailles; two brothers, Bobby Wilson, and Jesse Wilson, both of Versailles; five grandchildren, Amanda Taylor (Devon) Hughes, Erin (Thomas) Caudill, Kristina (Ethan) McClanahan, Lilly Smith and Jacob Smith; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Carl, and parents, Graddy and Muriel, JoNell was preceded in death by her sisters, Carolyn Ditmore and Anna Mae Flora; and brothers, Dickie Wilson, Donnie Wilson, Roger Wilson and Billy Wilson.
Services were held Wednesday, May 16, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, with Brother Carl Jones officiating. Burial followed at Rose Crest Cemetery with JoNell’s nephews serving as pallbearers.
