Adopt a Cat

Every spring, thousands of pregnant cats and newborn kittens enter rescues across the country. Here at Woodford Humane Society we refer to this time of year as “kitten season.” We currently have over 70 cats and kittens in our care and the number is continuing to rise.

With a larger number of cats coming in during the spring, space becomes tight and the need for forever homes grows drastically.

June is Adopt a Cat Month and with kitten season upon us we are overflowing with everything from young, spunky kittens to mature, mellow adults, and everything in-between. Each one is in need of a place to call home. Are you ready to make a difference for a homeless cat or kitten? Here are several ways you can help change their lives.

First step is the obvious one: stop by the Adoption Center and find a new best friend to take home today. Whether you have a cat already or you’re looking at getting your first, we can help you find a cat that best suits your home life. Cats come with many different personalities: affectionate, social, independent, enthusiastic, etc. It is important to find one that fits with your personality.

What if you can’t get a new kitty, but still have the desire to help out those that are in need? Here are some easy ways you can still make a difference.

Donate: With no government funding, we rely solely on donations from people like you. Every donation helps provide for the needs of our pets while they are awaiting their forever home. Monetary donations of any amount are a big help, but you can also donate much needed supplies or even set up ways to give while you shop through programs like Kroger Community Rewards. Go to our website at woodfordhumane.org and check out “Ways to Help” tab, for more ideas and a list of items to donate that help keep our pets happy during their stay.

Volunteer: Become a volunteer with us. We always need help keeping our facility looking its best, socializing and playing with our kitties and pups. Our pets love the extra attention they get from our volunteers and they greatly benefit from it as well. We also rely on volunteers for extra help during fundraising events held year round. Want to learn more about how you can become a volunteer? Go to our website and click on the “Volunteer” tab to get started. Spread the word: Like us, follow us and share our posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The more people we reach the more our pets benefit. With how popular social media is these days, it has helped many of our feline, canine and other small furry friends gain the support they need and find many of them new forever homes. This month is your opportunity to change the life of a homeless cat (or dog). What will you do to help? Contact us at manager@woodfordhumane.org or 859-873-5491 for more information on getting involved, donating, or adopting a new furry friend.
