Jackets lose to Madison Central in regional semifinal

The Woodford County High School baseball team lost, 4-2, to Madison Central in the 11th Region semifinal June 2 at Chandler Field. The game was tied 2-2 in the botom of the sixth when WCHS senior Hunter Hilbert surrendered a two-run home run to MCHS senior Jeremy Cox. Hilbert pitched five-and-two-thirds innings, allowing four runs (two earned) and striking out seven. WCHS senior Caleb McNeely pitched one-third of an inning in relief.

The Bat Jackets struck first when senior outfielder Sam Flora hit a sacrifice fly, scoring junior Ben Browning.

MCHS senior Logan Thompson hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Indians a 2-1 lead.

WCHS junior Griffin Blankenship grounded out to third base, scoring junior Charlie Corum to tie the game.

McNeely singled with two outs in the top of the seventh inning but the game ended when Browning grounded out to third.

The Jackets were held to just five hits and three walks. Corum led the Jackets at the plate going two-for-two and added a stolen base.

The Jackets finished their season with 25 wins.
