Lady Jackets trio wins State Cup with United 1996 FC

High School soccer season is a couple of months away, but three members of the WCHS varsity team won the Kentucky State Cup in the girls 16U division. The Kentucky State Open Cup is held as part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Mackenzie Tucker, Emma Oberlander, and Reagan Gilbert are members of the United 1996 FC team based in Lousiville. The team qualified for the State Cup during a series of games held during Memorial Day weekend. The final four teams advanced to the semifinals in Elizabethtown June 2. In the semifinal against Kentucky Fire, United 1996 was trailing 1-0 in the first half before Tucker scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, assisted by teammates Kira Adkins and Savina Zamborini. In the championship game on Sunday, June 3, United 1996 beat undefeated LFC, 1-0. Tucker scored the game-winning goal in the first half on an assist from Gilbert. The team will represent Kentucky in a regional tournament June 22-27 in Indianapolis for the opportunity to advance to the United States Youth Soccer National Championship in Frisco Tx.
