Willis E. Rich Jr., 83, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Versailles, husband of Charline Carter Rich, died on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
Born in Clay County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Willis E. Sr. and Emma Stockton Rich. He was a U.S. Army retired Lt. Colonel having served more than 30 years in both active duty and in the reserves. He was a member of the Larue County Church of Christ and former member of the Versailles Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, Charline, he is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Frank) Hestand of Versailles; and Tracey Rich Giles of Lawrenceburg; two stepchildren, Susan (Greg) Pawley and Joe (Angela) Carter, both of Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren, Hannah Giles, Haidyn Giles, Emily Hestand, Brandt Pawley, Jackson Pawley, Nick Carter and Sophie Carter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rochelle Dyer Rich, in 1994.
Services will be conducted at 2 pm, Tuesday, June 19, at Versailles Church of Christ, with a eulogy by John Board. Derrick Sumerel, and Charlie Wilson will also be celebrants. Pallbearers will be Nick Carter, Brandt Pawley, Jackson Pawley, Haidyn Giles, Tim Turner and Chuck Dyer. Military honors and interment will follow at Rose Crest Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be at the Elizabethtown Church of Christ from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, and at the Versailles Church of Christ from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 19. Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
