Woodford County Fair Flower Show

On Monday, June 18, entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon for the Woodford County Fair Flower Show. After judging, the public can view the exhibits on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The flower exhibits will be located in the Falling Springs Arts and Recreation Center. This year, the co-chairs will be Sue Fosson, 873-7582, and Missie Wood, 873-4367.

It is very important that exhibitors follow the directions for showing the flowers as printed in the fair catalogue, which can be found at The Woodford Sun office, the Agriculture Resource Building, and various stores where The Woodford Sun is sold. The information is also on the fair web page:http://www.woodfordcountyfair.org under exhibits.

To expedite completing entry forms on Monday morning, decide in which class your specimen or arrangement should be entered and bring address labels to put on entry tags.

Exhibitors in the Horticulture Division should choose flowers that are just coming into the height of their bloom. Roses should not be fully open and should have at least one set of perfect foliage. All entries should be displayed in a clear bottle strong enough to support the stem.

Exhibitors in the Arrangement Division should be very careful to condition their flowers by picking them the day before and placing the stems in deep water in a cool place. Follow carefully the directions for the various classes. No dried or artificial flowers are to be entered unless the directions specify.

Exhibitors up to age 18 are especially encouraged to exhibit in the Youth Division. All entries in the Youth Division will be awarded a ribbon.

Everyone is encouraged to enter the show. First, second and third place will receive ribbons and monetary awards.

Entries must be picked up on Wednesday, June 21, between 9 a.m. and noon.
