Every June, the fair brings carnival rides, greased pig contests and cotton candy to Woodford County. On Saturday, June 23, you can add a card of nine boxing matches to the list of entertainment. Legends Youth Boxing Club's William “Sarge” Ferris has been training boxers for years, and this year he decided that Woodford County was the place to hold a series of bouts and show the community that Versailles has its share of boxing talent, he said. “We've got a couple of Versailles' kids fighting as part of our event,” said Ferris. “We want to put on a good show and provide a stage for these kids to showcase their skills and encourage them to do well. Boxing takes hard work and discipline, and we are not only teaching kids how to become great athletes, but we also want them to become outstanding young men.” Marik “Black Mamba” Black will be the headliner. The Woodford County High School grad sports a 5-1 record coming into the event. including a victory at the “I am Ali” Festival in Louisville June 9. WCHS student Sinatra Siegmund will make his boxing debut at the event. The heavyweight has been training for the last nine weeks and said he is ready to fight in front of family and friends. I've always been fascinated by the sport,” said Siegmund. “It's really helped keep me focused and discover who I want to be.” The fights are scheduled to take place in the red barn starting at 6:30 p.m.
