Midway University's SID Dylan Brown honored

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The River States Conference has announced that Midway University's Dylan Brown has been named the RSC Sports Information Director of the Year for 2017-18. Brown, who is in his second year as SID at Midway and previously was at St. Catharine (Ky.) College, earned the honor after voting by his SID peers in the conference.

The RSC SID of the Year award annually recognizes one honoree for their dedication to sports information efforts in promotion of their campus, conference and the NAIA. It was established in 2014-15 to honor a deserving candidate and bring attention to the SID role and what it brings to a college athletics department in the RSC.

"I am very humbled and grateful to win this award amongst a great group of SIDs within our conference," said Brown. "It has been a great year for Midway University and the athletics department. I want to thank our President, Dr. John Marsden, and our Athletic Director, Rusty Kennedy, for all their support that they have given me. To get to work with a great group of coaches and student-athletes on a daily basis is what makes this job rewarding."

"Dylan Brown has been an outstanding SID in this conference," said Kevin Taylor, SID of the River States Conference. "Dylan has brought so much to our conference in his two years since coming to Midway. As a quality SID at one of our campuses and also with his efforts at RSC championship events, Dylan has greatly enhanced the experiences for the student-athletes, coaches and teams at Midway and within the RSC. This honor is well deserved and well earned. We thank him and recognize him for his outstanding sports information work."

Since arriving at Midway in the summer of 2016, Brown has made a big impact on the Eagles' athletic department and the RSC. He has brought much attention to Midway athletics, which has grown tremendously over the last two years. He has also lent his expertise to many RSC championship events across all seasons of fall, winter and spring. He is the school's first-ever full time SID, and he is the media contact for 17 Midway sports, according to university leaders.

Key achievements for Brown since coming to Midway include the promotion of many new sports teams on campus, including the first men's sports for the Eagles -- the redesign of the Midway athletics website, introducing live video-streaming on Stretch Internet for Midway soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball, increasing the social media presence and following for the Eagles, and providing coverage of Midway teams reaching NAIA national championship events.

Brown has been heavily involved in RSC championship events during his time at Midway. He has served as the media coordinator at the RSC men's and women's golf championships the last two years, providing live scoring and coverage. Brown has also been a big contributor to the league's coverage at the RSC baseball and softball championships in 2017 and 2018, assisting with live video and stats coverage and photography.

Brown was also the host SID for the RSC Men's Soccer Tournament semifinals and finals hosted by Midway this past year. Always one to help out his fellow SIDs within the conference, Brown lent his hand in providing statistical coverage during RSC volleyball quad matches held at opposing schools this past year. He also assisted the conference as a NAIA national player of the week voter representing the RSC in several sports.
