Road Engineer Smith dismissed

Woodford Road Engineer Buan Smith was dismissed by Judge-Executive John Coyle Tuesday afternoon during a special called meeting of Woodford Fiscal Court.

The court discussed the issue during executive session, after which Coyle announced his decision.

Coyle said Smith was fired for misfeasance and incompetency relating to twice not obtaining proper paperwork from the state involving paving projects. If Smith requests a hearing on the matter, it will be held Friday, June 29, at 8:30 a.m.

Reached at home Tuesday night, Coyle said he believed Smith had been county engineer since January 2007, and his term was to expire in early January. Coyle said if nothing changes, he’ll have 10 days after the date of the possible dismissal hearing to hire a replacement for the remainder of Smith’s term.

The Sun was unable to reach Smith for comment.
