Woodford Wrestling Club dominates Alabama State Games


Woodford Wrestling Club continues to travel from state to state looking for the best competition. In its recent trip to the Alabama State Games, the club tallied 16 medals including 12 gold. WCHS junior Wyatt Andreoni also competed on behalf of Woodford County High School and won gold and silver medals.

Grecco style Intermediate 55-pounds Brycen Gray placed first. Grey beat Jack Howard (Arlington Wrestling Club) by technical fall in the first round and finals. Intermediate 80-pounds Nico Strong-Walker placed second. In round one, Strong-Walker lost by technical fall to teammate Braylen Livingston. In the third round, Strong-Walker won by technical fall over Chase Butler (Spartan Wrestling Club). Intermediate 80-pounds Braylen Livingston placed first. Livingston won by technical fall over teammate Nicco Strong-Walker and by technical fall over Chase Butler in the final. Novice 115-pounds Jeffrey Temprano placed third. Temprano lost by fall in the first round to Mason Ellis (Quest Wrestling Club) and lost by technical fall in the third round to Matthew Butler (Spartan Wrestling Club). Cadet 160-pounds Triston Brooks placed first. Brooks won by technical fall in the first round over Colby Hallmark (Hayden Wrestling Club) and by technical fall in the second round over Nick Kendrick (Southside). In the final, Brooks pinned Noah Bauer (Gold Getters Wrestling Club).

Folk Style

Intermediate 55-pounds Gray placed first. In the first round, Gray won by technical fall over Alexander Smith (Enterprise Assassins). Gray defeated Smith again by fall in the second round. Intermediate 80-pounds Strong-Walker placed second. In the first round, Strong-Walker won by fall over Chase Butler (Spartan Wrestling), but lost a 5-0 decision in the third round to teammate Livingston. Intermediate 80-pounds Livingston placed first. Livingston won by fall in the first round over Butler (Spartan Wrestling) and won by decision over teammate Strong-Walker in the third round.

Intermediate 115-pounds Temprano placed first. Temprano won by major decision over Anthony Gideon (Madison County Youth) in the first round and won by fall over Jackson Spencer (Quest Wrestling Club) in the second round. In round three, Temprano pinned Kelton Mittelbach (Enterprise Assassins).

Cadet 160-pounds Brooks placed first. Brooks won by fall over Nick Kendrick (Southside) in the first round and pinned Colby Hallmark (Hayden Wrestling Club) in the second round. In the fourth round, Brooks won by major decision over Jason Minchew (Mountie Wrestling) and won an 11-5 decision in the fifth round over Noah Bauer (Gold Getters Wrestling Club).

Junior 160-pounds Andreoni won both matches by fall over Javet Williams (Trill Family).

Freestyle Intermediate 55-pounds Gray placed first. Gray won both matches over Smith by technical fall.

Intermediate 80-pounds Strong-Walker placed third. In the first round, Strong-Walker lost by technical fall to Livingston. Strong-Walker lost by fall in the second round to Carter Hayes (Phenix City Youth). Strong-Walker won by forfeit in the third round.

Intermediate 80-pounds Livingston won by technical fall over teammate Strong-Walker. Livingston won by forfeit in the second round and won by technical fall over Hayes (Phenix City Youth) in the third round.

Novice 115-pounds Temprano placed first and won a pair of matches by forfeit.

Cadet 160-pounds Brooks placed first. Brooks won by technical fall over Hallmark (Hayden Wrestling) in the first round. In the second round, Brooks won by technical fall over Bauer (Gold Getters Wrestling) and won by decision over Minchew (Mountie Wrestling) in the third round. In the fifth round, Brooks won by technical fall over Kendrick (Southside). Junior 160 170 pounds Andreoni placed second. Andreoni forfeited his first round match to Morgan Wood (Huntsville High School) and won by forfeit in the third round over Nick Miller (Alabama Takedown).
