WCHS football team to host seven-on-seven tournament
The Woodford County High School football team will be hosting the first annual Bojangles Woodford County Invitational seven-on-seven tournament at Community Stadium Saturday, July 14. The Jackets are expecting a field of 20 teams to compete.
Seven-on-seven tournaments have recently grown into a showcase of skills for next-level players. The games are played by all-star teams and feature only passing plays and no contact. The rules of the game are simple. The ball is placed at the offensive team's 40-yard line and quarterbacks have four seconds to throw to a receiver or they are deemed sacked. The defensive coverage allows both the receiver and defender to work in one-on-one scenarios and gain valuable experience.
“We want to provide a great opportunity for kids to come out and sharpen their skills against good competition,” said WCHS Coach Dennis Johnson. “We have teams coming from all over the state and we plan to make this a showcase for them. We will have a DJ playing music, some cornholes games and a great concession lineup as well. Our plans for the future is to turn this into a weekend long event next year and grow into a premier event every summer.”
