Man accused of abandoning child

A 29-year-old man faces several charges after allegedly passing out at the Kroger gas station Saturday night with a young child inside his vehicle.

Versailles Police Lt. Michael Fortney said Ryan Humphries was asleep in his car and bystanders were unable to wake him. After someone took the child out of the car, Humphreys woke up and drove off without the child. He was later arrested on Crossfield Drive and charged with DUI, possession of heroin, first-degree wanton endangerment and abandonment of a minor.

As of Monday afternoon, Humphreys was lodged in the Woodford County Detention Center on $5,000 full cash bond. The child is in the custody of grandparents, Fortney said.
