Woodford cheer teams shine at UCA camp

The Woodford County High School cheerleading team earned a pair of superior ribbons at the Universal Cheer Association camp. The camp consists of drills focused on stunting, team building and pyramid skills.

The Lady Jackets earned their awards in both their cheer and rally routines. The Lady Jackets also took home the overall superior camp trophy.

The Woodford County Middle School Lady Tigers also won a superior ribbon in the cheer competition and took home the overall superior camp trophy.

Tryouts were held during camp for the UCA All-American team. Only the top 10 percent of campers who attend a Varsity Spirit Camp receive an All-American honor, according to the UCA website. The high school honorees will march in the New Year's Day Parade in London England. WCHS sophomores, Grace Coffman, Maddie Hall, Ali Parker, Sarah Chappell and Emilie Rice were named All-Americans. WCHS seniors Kennedy Geilear and Kylie Elkins were also named to the All-American team, along with freshmen Jenni Elder and Rayjana Howard.

WCMS seventh-grader Shelby Lockard Sanders, eighth-graders Mattie Robinette, Kaylie Popp, Reese Nickels and Emma Jackson were named to the middle school All-American team and will participate in the 2018 Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.
