Helen Morton Carter, 87, widow of William H. Carter, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
Born on Jan. 11, 1931, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mabel Jennels Morton. She was a graduate of Simmons High School and worked in the cafeteria for Woodford County schools for over 25 years. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Lillian E. Morton and Virginia Sandifer, both of Versailles; a son, Joseph (Angela) H. Carter, Frankfort; two brothers, Henry (Latisha) Morton Sr. and Lawrence (Vickie) Morton Sr., all of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Carter; and six siblings, Ella Mary Belle Samuels, Lillian Morton, Agnes Samuels, Charles Morton, Wallace Russell Morton and Nelson Leo Morton.
Services were conducted Saturday, July 21, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, by Rev. Earl Ragland. Pallbearers were Wallace Morton, Henry Morton Jr., Brian Johnson, Larry Vanhoose, John Wilson and Dan Walls. Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence Morton Jr., Sherman Morton, Garland Jackson, Eugene Howard, Carl Harris, Edward Morton and Tim Middleton. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
