Traffic accident kills cousins
Two 20-year-olds were killed in a single-vehicle accident on McCracken Pike early Saturday morning.
Versailles police said excessive speed may have been a factor in the early morning accident that claimed the lives of Dylan Boone, of Woodford County, and Spencer Hopkins, of Anderson County. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. (Their obituaries are on page 7.)
According to Woodford County Coroner Ronald Owens, Boone and Hopkins were cousins. A passenger in the car, Kelsey Berger, 21, of Versailles, was in fair condition Tuesday at UK Chandler Hospital.
Police said the vehicle was outbound on McCracken Pike when it struck a tree around 3:36 a.m. As of Tuesday afternoon, the accident was still under investigation. Owens said Hopkins was the driver, Berger was in the passenger seat, and Boone was in a back seat.
On Boone’s Facebook page, a friend who said he knew both men wrote, “This morning, two good kids were taken way too early. I only knew them personally for a short time, but I could tell they were good boys. Friendship actually meant something to them, and they would do anything they could for their friends and family. Please pray for their families during their time of loss, and fly high boys – you will be missed.”
